Phuket FantaSea

Visited the Phuket FantaSea theme park whilst I was in Phuket last week. It was Las Vegas meets Disneyland's haunted house meets the circus, all high on something. Visit only with a BIG sense of humour.

In the meantime, Happy Christmas! :-)

Sneak peek at Her World mag shoot at hansel shop!

Yesterday, the hansel shop at Mandarin Gallery was photographed by Bangkok Airways' inflight magazine, Her World magazine and CATALOG magazine in back-to-back appointments all within the same day. It was pretty exciting for me! Here are some sneak peeks at the Her World shoot for their Feb 2011 issue - you get also get a sneak peek at our next season's print! ;-)

hansel Mandarin Gallery - Before & After!

My first Christmas gift wrap design!

It's soooo fun that I get the opportunity to design different things - this here is my first Christmas gift wrap design and it was hand-drawn with my trusty wax crayon especially for Her World magazine.

I bought my Her World Dec 2010 copy already! You take the magazine cardboard backer to their roadshow (see the dates and locations below in bright yellow circle!) and exchange it for a set of gift wrappers created by 4 Singaporean fashion designers.

I created the design such that you could use it as a poster as well as a gift wrap. It features my company mascot, Hansel the dog, dressed in a Rudolf costume, hiding amongst trees decorated with red baubles. :-) Enjoy!

I love mini polaroids.

We had SUCH a great party on Friday evening at my new shop. SERIOUSLY. The party photos are up on The hansel Facebook Page. One of my favourite elements of the party was the polaroid photo-taking in front of the pantry scene backdrop with the props that I drew. Some of the polaroids were stuck on the old fashioned "fridge" - here're close up shots of some of my favourite polaroids. Thank you to each and every guest who made the party a success!

10 minutes with Jo Soh on the Mandarin Gallery blog.

While my team and I get busy with setting up the new shop at Mandarin Gallery today, here's a short interview with me, on Mandarin Gallery's own blog.

Hello, hansel?

My new shop at Mandarin Gallery is due to open in just a little over one week's time!
I bought ONE of these two cool retro-style phones for the new shop - guess which one?
(Answer: Come to the new shop to find out.)

Things that caught my eye in Bangkok.

A graphic sticker that reminds passengers travelling on Bangkok's Skytrain to please offer their seats to monks - I love how they interpreted the lines of a monk's wrapped outfit in stylized motif.

Two chairs sitting by the sidewalk made from found materials.

Dublin Road apartments.

Lovely patterns to be found if you look for them - snapped these shots while waiting for my ride at the ground floor of an walk-up apartment in the middle of the city. Guess which one is my personal favourite?

The colourful lit buttons of course! They remind me of spaceship control panels featured in 1950s films!

Mister Pirate Playmobil.

I played with so much Playmobil when I was a kid I was thrilled to see this SUPER HUGE one standing at the Toys"R"Us store exit at Forum Galleria. (These guys are usually about two and half inches tall.) If you look closely at his five o'clock shadow, you can see that they are just marker dots!

Jo Soh at 20 years old.

I was 20, I was living in London and preparing for a cycling/camping trip across Europe. I didn't want to bring a hair dryer with me so I shaved my hair off! LOL!

The caricature on the right is one I did of myself at that time.

Lily the Lady photoshoot for Japan.

The superbly talented illustrator Lee from Flee Circus also creates some GREAT photos so I asked her to do these shots specially for our Japanese tradeshow brochures. That pretty girl in the pictures is my design assistant, Dani, and that is the living room in her home! It was the perfect setting for a lady's home.

Collectors Contemporary.

When you step into the Collectors Contemporary, you feel like you're in New York. Think - gorgeous white gallery in an obscure industrial area with fantastic artworks that you could go really really up close to view and experience. A very rare selection of Andy Warhol's works are now on display. I think this is a MUST-GO event.
