Wandering around Wanderlust hotel.

Loh Lik Peng's new Wanderlust hotel is in my old neighbourhood - Little India (I lived and worked there for a year in a haunted house).

On the night of the official opening party, they invited a silhouette-cutting artist who amazed us all with his scissor-wielding skills. If you look carefully in the photos below, what fascinated me most was that he started by cutting a mirror image of my silhouette and when he finished off the silhouette, the piece was upside down! To top it all off, each silhouette was completed within what must have been under a minute! RESPECT!!!

The boutique hotel rooms are really fun, especially the floor designed by DP Architects where the rooms remind me so much like the Paper Dolly set up in my shop! How apt that I was wearing the iconic Paper Dolly dress on party night!

Katy Perry in hansel!

How exciting is this?!?! :-)

Katy Perry gatecrashing Melbourne High School's Year 12 formal was all over the news this morning in Australia, with a video online showing how Katy stunned a group of male students by appearing like magic in the middle of their dance act!

Here's the article on the online version of The Age newspaper!

What's most exciting about it is that she was wearing hansel's Sequin Bustier Dress! Me and my team were absolutely thrilled about the news! Yaaaaay!!!!

The Bagan Bar & Restaurant, Penang.

I went to Penang to attend a wedding dinner party which was held at The Bagan. An old bungalow with an eclectic interior, my favourite decor were 4 hand-painted portraits hanging on an orange wall. Who were they? I don't know! But they look very wealthy, very important. :-)

I love old mansions in Penang.

We kept passing this mansion in the taxi whilst to-ing and fro-ing from the hotel. This absolutely beautifully well-maintained piece of history graces the waterfront along Gurney Drive. I made a trip from the hotel to the mansion gate just to take these 2 snapshots.

I can easily imagine the scene of an evening garden party in the 1920s - little flickering candles, chit chat and laughter, scent of frangipani in the air. Hmmm.... have I been watching too many movies? :-)

I love the old shophouses in Penang.

An old fashioned hair salon; Hang Chow Hotel with it's striped candy-cane-like mosaic covered columns; a window with multiple layers of textures and patterns; and old shop houses along Stewart Lane.

I like to stare at the floor (in Penang).

I just spent 3 days in Penang in Malaysia. Penang is a super popular holiday destination for Singaporeans and I had visited with my family when I was really little - obviously too little to remember how beautiful the historic George Town is!

I have plenty of inspirational snaps. To begin, these are some of the wonderfully patterned flooring along the front walkway of old buildings in George Town.

Michelle Chia wears hansel on Buffetlicious.

In episode 10 of Buffetlicious, I must say that MediaCorp artiste Michelle Chia looked really quite stunning wearing the red silk satin version of our Bow Cami Dress! She made me look at my dress in a new light!

The other thing that caught my eye was the Straits Kitchen restaurant at the Grand Hyatt that they were eating in! OMG, my fellow Singaporeans would understand how hungry I got just looking at the laksa, prata, popiah..... OK the restaurant is on the atas (high class) side of things, but STILL, just to be surrounded by ALL the food that feeds both my senses and emotions! It's all food that I grew up with! That buffet looks like it could definitely ruin any attempts to stay on a strict diet.

Hmm.... perhaps next weekend.....

Hellmann's Blue Ribbon.

Whilst making my packed lunch last night (I have been making home-cooked packed lunches for the past 3 months now and I'm loving' them!), I noticed a lovely white bow atop the Hellmann's mayonnaise jar lid.

Being a bow lover, I immediately snapped photos and read up on the meaning of the bow in Hellmann's brand history. Apart from the origins of mayonnaise, I learnt that back in the early 1900s, German immigrant Richard Hellmann was selling two versions of his wife's home-made mayonnaise in his delicatessen in New York City. To distinguish between the two versions, he tied a blue ribbon around one of them. When the "ribbon" version became the hot selling mayonnaise in 1912, Hellmann created the "Blue Ribbon" label, for use on larger glass jars.

And that was the fascinating fact of the day!

Lost behind-the-scenes snaps.

Completely forgot I had these shots of me setting up the Paper Dolly shop interior at The hansel Shop! (Thanks Valencia!)

Katy Perry! Katy Perry! Katy Perry!

Cool, sexy, funny and with grreeat retro-inspired style, Katy Perry is in town to perform at SingFest. Yesterday, my design assistant Dani and I got to meet her in person at her press session on the top of Marina Bay Sands, by the amazing infinity pool. A few days earlier, the hansel team had prepared a present of hansel dresses and jewellery and a hand-written message on the very apt hansel "Candy Girl" greeting card, and had it delivered to Warner Music for the California Gurl. It certainly wasn't our usual Monday afternoon yesterday!
