Say hello to "hello hansel"!

And so a new label is born. :-)

I'm having a little get together at my shop this Sunday 20 Feb from 2pm to 6pm to celebrate my new casualwear label, hello hansel. (The name is inspired by how we answer the phone.) See some of the "hello hansel" styles here on The hansel Facebook Page.

We're having champagne and chocolates. We're having a lucky draw too - drop off your namecards for a chance to win one of three hansel $50 gift vouchers. And for my loyal hansel VIP members, you can bring one friend to this Sunday's event and, you and your friend both get 20% discount off the new "The Geometric Swan" collection, but ONLY from 2pm-6pm this Sunday!

I'll be wearing my new Geometric Swan pieces when I go to the shop this Sunday. I hope to see some of you readers there. :-)

The Geometric Swan shop decor!

After all that experimentation, I decided on origami swans in the end and created this "pond" scene on the central display table in my shop. Wanna see the rest of the shop? Take a look at the photos on The hansel Facebook Page.

Setting up The Geometric Swan shop decor.

Done over 2 nights, the new decor at my Mandarin Gallery shop for the new "The Geometric Swan" collection is ready. Here's how it was done.

Origami swans.

So, after my Lego Swan attempts, I tried my hand at origami!
These were made from sheets of mahjong paper.

"Aya Sekine" video by Abundant Productions.

This video features 2 of my very talented friends. One is ultra-vivacious Japanese pianist Aya Sekine who is based in Singapore and performs regularly at the Blu Jaz Cafe on Bali Lane. (That girl sweats energy!) Aya wears pieces from the hansel AW10 Lily the Lady collection as she does her thang in the futuristic campus of LASALLE College of the Arts.

The other is the steady pom pi pi (if you have no idea what I'd just typed - that's a common Slinglish slang. Click on the link to see what I was referring to!) Australian director Ben Siow who runs Abundant Productions - Ben has his own unique way of looking at the world and picks up on things that I wouldn't otherwise have noticed!

Mr and Mrs Smith blog interview.

I am truly lucky to be a tastemaker for boutique and luxury hotel guide Mr & Mrs Smith. To date, I have reviewed 2 distinctively different hotels for them. All reviews are done anonymously so when I check in at a hotel, my partner and I feel somewhat like (and here's a reflection of my retro preferences) Maxwell Smart and Agent 99.

I had blogged about one of the hotels, the amazing Anantara Phuket Resort & Spa, in 2 previous posts (this one and this one!).

Here's a recent interview that I did with their Smith Travel Blog. Enjoy reading! :-)

Lego swans.

If you've been following this blog or The hansel FB Page, it's no surprise that the theme for the upcoming Spring/Summer 2011 collection is "The Geometric Swan". As is the tradition that I have created for my shop, I change the shop decoration to match each different collection theme. I bought a large box of LEGO Duplo blocks from Toys R Us the other day and tried my hand at creating a swan display. (I LOVED the oversize LEGO block lid on the box and the new colours like the light cornflower blue.) The swan sculpture results crack me up :-)

The Pantry at Loewen Gardens.

The food is down-to-earth, the portions generous, and the visuals happy and enticing. The Pantry is one of my latest favourite-est finds for brunch. This is their carrot cake - you can literally see almost whole, chunky pieces of walnut practically falling out of the cake!
