Amelia & Jo at The hansel Shop today.

I LOVE how she paired her royal blue tee with a bright lime green skirt. Colour power!

Facial hair on plastic toys.

Seen in toy shop window. The pattern is fascinating - the irony of a rough scraggly five o'clock shadow pattern (why is it called five o'clock anyway? why not ten o'clock or noon shadow?) on a perfectly smooth rounded surface. This isn't the first time that I was fascinated by facial hair on Playmobil doll.

hansel booth at Blueprint 2011.

Since Blueprint 2011 was a trade only event, most of you probably didn't get to see our trade booth design - here are some snaps! (The stars were drawn directly on the walls - it always feels ever so slightly thrilling-ly rebellious to drag my big fat marker across freshly painted pure cream walls.)

Saturday InDesign Singapore.

For one day only on Saturday 21 May 2011, hansel X Blow Inc X BusAds created an installation for Sydney-based habitus magazine at the inaugural Saturday InDesign Singapore show, located at 72-13 Mhd Sultan Road.

We turned the pages of habitus magazine from 2D to 3D! We took the silhouette of a chair, side table and lamp, cut from layers of stacked plywood (to represent the pages of a magazine) and prop up the cut-out shape to form a 2D-meets-3D reading corner.

A 3D version of the habitus magazine masthead for you to peer through. Get your friend to pose on the plywood furniture on the other side and snap a photo - loh and behold! You're in the magazine!

Here's a pop-up of the original silhouette of a chair, side table and reading lamp taken from the pages of habitus magazine.

Original magazine silhouette vs actual 3D plywood silhoette!

The "negative" space left after the silhouette is cut out.

The "positive" chunk propped up as a free standing reading area.

I pose.

And Michele from Blow Inc. poses!

hansel at Blueprint 2011.

Blueprint 2011 is a trade only event offering wholesale buyers Cruise 2011 collections from Asian fashion labels. hansel took a trade stand and did a mini show with just 10 looks from its upcoming "Flyaway Donkey" collection - it's inspired by tales from the Arabian Nights. Here's a peak at the looks featured on today's runway show - just remember what you see here won't be in stores till August 2011!

From tomorrow, Saturday, AND Sunday from 11am to 9pm, it is Blueprint Emporium and the whole event is open to the public. hansel will be at stand number A14 and will be having a Samples and Seconds sale. You will find one-off prototypes that never made the cut to the final collections at prices so low you'll need to pinch yourself to check if you're dreaming. Just remember though - it's CASH ONLY. But don't panic - there're plenty of ATMs just round the corner. Afterall it's at the Marina Bay Sands Convention Hall B, right next to the kerching!-kerching! casino!

Smart marketing at Bangkok petrol station.

You sit inside your car and do pretty much nothing while you wait for fuel to be topped up at the petrol station. Someone in Bangkok saw the potential of this captive audience and created a standee designed to be placed on your car hood, at perfect reading eye level. The standee advertises the promotions available at the Jiffy mini mart - which just so happened to be visibly perfectly positioned just beyond the advert!

Vanilla Garden, Bangkok.

Arrived in Bangkok in a blur from lack of sleep and was directed by a friend to Vanilla Garden on 53 Ekkamai Soi 12, and I was transported straight into 1950s Japan???!!! Some sandwiches and a Japanese salad later, I tried their Sakura crepe - it was pink. Food was on the average/good side. I suspect it was more the interior that heightened my whole experience there.

My hansel black and white robot/electric bolts tote fit right in. So did my cateye glasses, of course.

Nosaj Thing.

Caught Nosaj Thing at Heineken's The Secret Gallery and LOVED it. The show was held in an old school hall in the middle of a HDB neighbourhood. The Heineken team always manages to seek out these great and unusual locations.

Here's my favourite Nosaj Thing video on YouTube. I must have been watching it a hundred times a day by now. Enjoy.

hansel for ELLE Singapore.

ELLE Singapore invited me to design a printed tote bag a gift-with-purchase freebie for their May 2011 issue. I decided to spread some joy by working our SS2010 Swan Busy Traffic print in a cheerful bright canary yellow. Spotted this copy at the airport departure lounge just yesterday!

See the bag here on The hansel Facebook Page, and get a copy NOW! :-)
