Playing paper dolls with Tan Kheng Hua.

What do I do at 8 o'clock on a Friday morning?
Play with paper dolls!
Yes, really.

Did some filming for a programme called "Singapore Memories" this morning at my shop with the awesome actress Tan Kheng Hua. If that woman gets any fitter or smarter, she'd be Wonder Woman.

The programme was all about the paper doll - something that I played with A LOT when I was little. Naturally, in addition to the readymade ones, I drew and made my own.

For the programme, I was asked to draw a paper doll on the spot.
Hmm... Does she look a little familiar? ;)
(Paper doll Jo Soh is rocking the high waisted Tankini!)

Paper doll Jo comes complete with retro-inpired outfit.
Of course.

My look today.

One of my personal favourites from my SS12 "Tiers of Joy" collection - this suiting dress has a 3-tiered gradation skirt and that lovely lady-like silhouette that I so love. I decided to wear it with one of the vintage rose brooches that I picked up when I was in Melbourne. The brooch is from the 1950s and is in such AMAZINGLY good condition that I am mesmerized by it every time I see it.

Me and my aunt (in hello hansel!)

Simply awesome to see my aunt wearing my printed tee!

hansel's runway photos featured on The Wall Street Journal.

Super exciting media coverage for hansel! That's the "Flyaway Donkey" collection on the runway at Blueprint trade show here in Singapore.

1st consultations with Project Jem finalists.

Last week I met the three Project Jem finalists separately to go through their design submissions and guide them through the requirements of uniform design, discuss about fabric options, use of colour and any other questions that they might have. I was very impressed by how SERIOUSLY each finalist treated the competition - they were paying attention to what was being discussed, they were open to learn and the most exciting characteristic that I learnt - they had such self-initiative - initiative that seem lacking even in some of the fashion design students whom I have come across!

First I met up with Gillian Shen. I learnt that she works at the Epitome boutique (which stocks hansel!) and that she'd heard about the competition through someone from the hansel team, which then led her to look up online about the competition, which she then joined and here she is!!!

Next up, I met Ong Hui Min whose approach to the uniform design is very minimalist. We had to go through a few garment construction details so she could fully understand how her design ideas would look like as real garments.

And then I met Joel Yip. He's currently in the army and took a day off just for the meeting. Such passion and commitment - it is so good to witness attitude like this. :-) We talked through some of his design revisions and discussed fabrics. His challenge would be to learn about balance and simplifying his design ideas.

It's going to be very interesting to see what the three finalists come up with for the final presentation to the judges on 25 June...

I'm on TV NOW!!! :-)

It's the Homemakers Special episode of "We Are Singaporeans " game show on Channel 5!
Here're the snaps of my experience at MediaCorp. Soon the show will be up online too. I'll post that here in my blog when it's up. Woohoo!!!

First step, getting hair and makeup done in the shared MediaCorp hair and makeup room.

They had some interesting props in the glass cupboards....Exhibit A here is probably otherwise known as "the severed head".

A mask for days when you can't see the woods for the trees.

Briefing backstage just before going on the set.

That's the host Hossan Leong and me on the set of We Are Singaporeans 2 game show.

The wonderfully colourful windows....

...and that's how it looks behind the facade.

The lighting behind a "curtain" in one of the windows.

I was seated inside a "window" right next Sylvia Ratonel.

The view from my "window".

All the Singaporean icons and game show contestants gathered in front of the "windows" when the show was over!

They had even created a board game version of the show! They gifted it to each Singaporean icon at the end of the show. I played the game with friends after dinner one night. It was VERY entertaining.
